Cell Phone & PDA Forensics

At EFI, we can assist you with recovering data from over 500 handheld devices. Handheld devices include cell phone, personal digital assistant (Palm Treo, Blackberry, Black Jack, etc.), IPhone, IPod, MP3 player, or Garmin GPS device. We can recover such items as pictures, music, call logs, phonebooks, text messages, emails, and waypoints. In many cases, we can retrieve deleted items as well but this varies from model to model. The amount of data retrieved is also dependent on the model because the storage capacity on handheld devices is limited. If your cell phone or PDA has a removable memory card, we can extract data from it as well.

While EFI does possess the ability to recover deleted data, when it comes to handheld devices, we can sometimes only retrieve fragments of the information. For example, we may be able to recover the actual content of a text message but may not be able to definitively say who (what number) sent the text or the date and time it was sent. Either way, we put our best effort into every examination. What separates our services from many is that we analyze the recovered data against all findings. In the event we cannot recover a date and time, we may be able to match the content to that of another message that does contain date, time, and originator information. This enables us to more accurately assess the timeframe in which the message was sent.
